The DPSK/IQ-series fiber-optic lithium niobate modulator is engineered for 40 Gbps to 43 Gbps optical transmission systems. Featuring an electro-optic analog bandwidth of > 22 dB, the device integrates a nested Mach–Zehnder architecture where the optical path splits into two parallel child MZIs (In-phase and Quadrature branches). Each child MZI is driven independently via two single-ended GPPO (Mini-SMP) high-speed RF inputs at symbol rates up to 22.5 Gbaud, while an integrated electro-optic phase shifter establishes the 90° optical phase offset between the branches before final recombination. This single-polarization IQ structure yields a combined digital data rate of up to 45 Gbps under QPSK modulation formats. The package incorporates dedicated DC bias electrodes alongside an integrated monitor photodiode, allowing seamless interface with an external automatic bias control (ABC) board for long-term operating-point stabilization. With an Extended Coherent Formats (16-QAM) scheme, this modulator can achieve 100 GHz transmission, which essentially driven with multi-level electrical signals (PAM-4 on both I and Q).
Baseline Optical Loss Testing: When verifying the raw device insertion loss on an optical bench, biasing both the inner child and outer parent MZI ports at Full Peak (Maximum) Transmission yields the lowest optical insertion loss. Data Transmission: Under active digital modulation, operating each child MZI at the Null Bias Point generates optical carrier suppression to form the phase-shift keying constellation, which inherently increases average optical throughput loss.
Warning: The photodetector pins are highly sensitive to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Extreme caution must be exercised during handling to prevent permanent damage.
Note: Without a bias controller, the device will not function properly.
Note: This component is intended for OEM system integration and is not designed for standalone laboratory use. Units supplied without a protective benchtop enclosure are provided without warranty, as they are susceptible to damage from improper handling, installation, or operation.
