The Piezoelectric Fiber Phase Shifter (PIPS) utilizes a piezoelectric fiber stretcher to induce fiber birefringence and achieve phase retardation. It offers ultra-low insertion loss, compatibility with all fiber types, high power handling, and a significant phase change capability. The fiber is coated with polyimide for longevity. Two versions are available: the straight version, providing phase shifts up to 8π, and the coil version, capable of generating phase shifts up to 50π. The PIPS is engineered for fast response and continuous operation, making it ideal for large fiber phase-shifting applications.
A dedicated driver with 0-5V input control and a frequency range of up to 100 kHz is available, designed for seamless integration into customer systems. The control signal is applied via an SMA connector, and the driver operates on a 12V DC power supply (included). Each driver is tested with the device mounted to ensure optimal performance. Significant phase shifting occurs when the device operates near its resonance frequency, which can be utilized in applications requiring low power consumption and significant phase shifting. The PIPS provides a cost-effective, robust, high-performance solution for demanding fiber phase shifting applications.
