The MFCN Series Multimode Fiber Combiners fuse multiple input multimode fibers into a single output fiber with a larger core diameter and low loss. These combiners offer low insertion loss (0.2 dB per fiber joint), high power-handling capability, and a broad operating wavelength range limited only by the fiber’s intrinsic transmission characteristics. The MFCN Series can combine a large amount of input fibers into a single output fiber with core diameters of up to 600 µm. The minimum required output fiber core diameter, Dout, is determined by the equation below, where Din is the input fiber core diameter, and N is the number of input fibers:[𝐷𝑜𝑢𝑡> √𝑁 𝐷𝑖𝑛]. For example, a 200 µm output fiber can accommodate 13 input fibers with 50/125 µm diameter and 3 fibers with 105/125 µm dimensions. A 400 µm output fiber can accommodate 55 fibers with 50/125 µm dimensions, 13 fibers with 105/125 µm dimensions, and 3 fibers with a 200 µm core diameter.
