Fiber Couplers/Splitters

We offer a comprehensive range of fiber optic couplers/splitters based on three fabrication methods: fusion, micro-optics, and waveguide (PLC). Fusion couplers feature the lowest loss (0.3dB) and the highest optical power handling with a wavelength bandwidth of ±40nm. Micro-optic couplers overcome fused coupler shortcomings, achieving ultra-broad wavelength bandwidth (±200nm), a high polarization extinction ratio (>30dB), and good temperature stability. This platform’s flexibility enables cost-effective integration of filters and polarizers. Planar Lightwave Circuit (PLC) couplers offer a compact size with a large fiber port count, broad wavelength bandwidth (±200nm), and low cost, though they have higher fiber coupling loss and lower optical power handling due to organic epoxy in the light path. Our premium-grade couplers/splitters support various fiber types, including single-mode (SM), multimode (MM), polarization-maintaining (PM), and double-clad (DC) fibers, across wavelengths from 400nm to 2000nm, optical power up to 100W, and operating temperatures up to 300°C. We also offer couplers/splitters with electrically variable ratios. We have an in-house production operation to meet the made-in-the-USA requirement.

Note: That while fiber couplers efficiently split input light into multiple outputs, they are not suited for combining multiple beams into one due to a 50% light loss at each combining point. Multiple beams can be combined at low loss by utilizing differences in wavelength, polarization, or beam size.
