Fiber Optical Waveguide Intensity or Phase Modulators – 60GHz

Agiltron offers two types of high-speed lithium niobate waveguide fiber optic modulators: the standard proton-exchanged bulk crystal version, which is cost-effective, and the advanced thin-film version, which leverages cutting-edge technology to deliver the lowest RF Vπ (half-wave voltage) and high bandwidth up to 60 GHz. These modulators use a Mach-Zehnder interferometer structure, known for its intrinsic drift issues, but they are equipped with a bias control section that includes an integrated micro-heater and optical power monitor for both manual and automatic bias control. Manual bias can be adjusted by applying voltage to the heater while monitoring output intensity, and an automatic option is available, maintaining Vπ through slow-speed dithering feedback circuitry. Additionally, Agiltron offers a matching RF amplifier-based driver, which reduces the control voltage required to reach Vπ, allowing the use of a function generator as the signal input.
